Brat Camps:
The term ‘brat’ itself is enough for many teens. These camps are actually a therapeutic school or a wilderness programs or boot camp. Teen brat camps have been proved effective in correcting the behavior of many youths.
What are Brat Camps?
A brat camp poses different perceptions depending on the programs they offer and they work with different perspective. There are several camps which focus on team building and developing cooperation skills in a group.
Other brat camps focus on community service. They too adopt the policy of teamwork but gives equal attention to selflessness as well. Teens enrolled in such camps are given projects based on community service and they show cooperation while working with their leader. This also helps them in developing their skills and challenging wilderness expeditions.
Advantages of Brat Camps:
The main advantage of this camp is that they are usually located in rural areas so outdoor activities like sports and exercise are given importance.
The other type of brat camps is known as ‘boot camps’. These boot camps are usually started and led by ex-military staffs that treat each child as a new joinee. Their aim is to teach discipline to the students. Students have the responsibility to complete the mission assigned to them. These camps help children come out of their negative behavior and turn it onto positive direction.
These brat camps provide shock treatment to stun the troubled teen and make them realize the real worth of their parents. These programs or camps are also called as Intervention camps.
Disadvantages of Brat Camps:
The disadvantage of this program is that they are not effective to provide long term results in changing of teen’s behavior. They do not meet the issues that result in the behavior. But they help teenagers have a new point of view on their lives, families and hope for future within few weeks. It is used mostly by the parents for their child in the early teenage.
