There are various types of therapy options which can help struggling troubled teens. Some therapies focus on shifting patterns of mood and behavior while some try to reduce the effects of bad experiences in the past. Different methods of therapies depend on the nature and problems of the teen.


Medication can also be used side by side with psychotherapy treatment. There are mainly 5 types of therapies available which are:

- Psychodynamic Therapy: In this therapy the unresolved conflicts of the teen’s mind are resolved by providing a solution to the emotional issues of teen. These unresolved conflicts occur due to the emotional problems in teens.
- Behavioral Therapy: In this therapy the rapidly changing behavior of teens is focused.
- Cognitive Therapy: As we know that negative emotional issues cause self-destructive behavior in teens. Negative thoughts causes problem in child’s behavior. In this therapy the focus is kept on replacing negative thoughts by positive thoughts.
- Family Therapy: In this therapy family of teens is taken into account and family members made to understand the importance of rules, ideals, values, and limits. Family plays an important role in teen’s life and child learns from his parents and other family members. So changing families of teens helps in changing teen’s behavior.
- Supportive Therapy: In this therapy focus is on providing support to teens rather than changing them. This helps in increasing self-esteem of teenager.
