Troubled Teen Help
Help for parents of troubled teens is just a phone call away. Is your teenager seeking total independence even though he or she is not ready for it?. Is your child acting different (sneaky, secretative, and perhaps lying)? We can imagine that you still want to know where he or she are going, and who they will be with (you should want to know). You are probably not a parent who assumes that every “teen” activity is properly supervised or safe. Are you probably being a good parent who is parenting your child but your child does not appreciate your parenting. You are not alone.
Your desire to supervise and "parent" your child is probably causing all kinds of conflict in the home. Your teen is beginnng to act out in rebellion. He or she may "hate you", demanding that you back off and leave them alone (claming you are ruining their life). You are now discovering that your child is hanging out with the wrong crowd, abusing substances, skipping school, and getting into some trouble. Perhaps in your child's "emotional flare ups" he or she is blaming you for everything. He or she is very angry and you don't know why. Perhaps you see the signs of depression and anxiety, but they refuse to see a therapist. What do you do?
If your teenager is like most teens, he or she is pulling away from the family, and spending more and more time with friends. Obviously at this point, they have more interests in common with people their own age than they do with you, so don't take it personally. Some of this is typical and normal. Besides, teenagers are in a struggle for independence from their parents so they want to be with their peers, who are in the same struggle. But what happens when they go from zero-to-sixty in 4 seconds? Meaning, they are way out of control and participating in activities that are causing great harm (drinking, sneaking out at night, refusing to follow family rules or your authority?). You have options, and we want to help.
